How sick will the Santander ferry make me??

Not got any sea legs.....so we usually drive the bus but the furthest we've got is Bordeaux/ Lacanau [or we fly and pick up a hire car and get an apartment.]

We want to do Galithea, Madrid and Biarittz in the bus then drive home to Calais and the ferry makes sense but I've heard its pretty choppy through the bay of Biscay even in the summer...what experiences has anyone had...don't scare me!!!

I've done it. Was no problem at all. But maybe we were just lucky.

I sailed to Bilbao so similar route, was quite choppy for us, a lot of people being sick about the boat, wasn't the best to be honest

I expect it will be hit and miss though, some journeys will be much calmer, others worse

My worst (and first) experience was between the north and south islands of New Zealand when it became too choppy to go further so the ferry just decided to sit still for an hour and a half. Bleurgh.

For the next worst I was prepared and had taken an anti-sea-sickness beforehand and it all turned out fine.

Just go for it mate!

Great crossing. Barely notice you're on a ship. Get a cabin at the back of the boat, smoother ride.

If you wanted a spew cruise, the SeaCat crossing to Oostende in choppy water used to have the desired effect :lol: :lol:

We did Plymouth to santander and on the way back the waves were epic. Sea sky sea sky out of the window :smile:

The Mrs was sick the whole way, i spent most of the journey in the bar :lol:

The way there was like a mill pond so as said above its pot luck

Just go for it, we did it this June apparently it was rough according to my wife but being ex Navy I didnt notice. :lol: If its rough the best advice is to lie down and take it easy ... that's what I always did in my navy days ... and avoid locations where other people are throwing up, the smell of vomit doesnt usually help.

I saw people (not me ) throwing up on the fast cat from Cherbourg to Portsmouth ... whilst didnt see anyone on the Bilbao ferry being sick

From my see going years had both flat calm, rough and somewhere in between days in the Bay of Biscay :roll:

I'm an awful sea traveller so I always take Kalms. On one return leg we had a Force 8 storm, I was almost the only person in the restaurant that evening, the ship was deserted and all the entertainment cancelled etc :lol: but with the pills I was fine. It's a rough old bit of sea, and when a storm brews you will know about it.

Worst ferry trip I've ever had was from Denia to Ibiza. Experienced a tropical like storm. There was purple lighting in every direction and I honestly didn't know a boat could tip so much from side to side without tipping over! I had a big Burger King Meal just before getting on as well, which projected out of me like David Walliams in the sketch with the racist village fair ladies in little Britain lol
What amazed me was the locals where happily tucking into their packed lunches, singing and playing cards etc whilst it was all going on.
My head was swaying from side to side for two days after the ferry crossing!
Me and the missus where really anxious about the trip back but the sea was like glass! So I guess it's total pot luck
