Had a look at my timing last night and jumping about all over the place! Distributor (single vac type) is probably original, so shaft is a tad worn!
Been meaning to fit a pertonix for ages so now seems like a good time to do so.
Plan is to buy new vac distributor and pertonix kit and fit all at once.
Stock seems harder to find for a Bosch unit (approx £100) where as repro at about £55 no issue. On my bog-standard SP 1600 do I really need a Bosch version, which was my first intention. Can get both the repro and pertonix together for the same price...
Then I assume straight swap...

I also like the idea of a pulley with timing marks on it. Was looking at a SCAT solid billet ali one (about £30) - should this also be a straight swap? I am sure I read somehwere about leaking oil seals, but maybe this is at the flywheel end. I guess main issue is getting the old pulley off in situ...

Any thoughts?

Be careful when changing to a different bottom pully, depending on your engine it can often cause leaks and coat your engine bay nicely. i.e a few engines require a special bottom pulley due to machining when reconditioning etc, but if yours is stock it should be okay.

The scat bottom pully can have a very shallow oil screw and may need to be made deeper, can cost a few quid at a machine shop as I think its made up of 3 seperate threads 8)

I have started to hear good things regarding those 1 2 3 dizzys but have not tried it myself. A stock bottom pully is really very good. You could always take it off and clean/paint it up.

Hope that helps a bit 8)

Yes it does mate - cheers!
I'm inclined to leave the bottom pulley for now - it works fine, and if I can get the marks to sit still enough with a pertonix, I might be able to see them anyway!
123 dizzy? Is that the 'repro' one, or another make/option?

I've thought about the 123 upgrade. on a stock motor a bit over the top imo £199+

as above !!

I have a scat pulley and it doesn't do the oil in the engine trick quite as well as a stock, the only advantage that I can see really is the timing marks - the other option is to buy a timing mark ring and mark your stock pulley - or - work out using maths etc and mark your pulley - or - buy a D marked pulley as these are slightly bigger I think so the fan spins more or something!!!

you can get recon dizzys from somewhere I'll look for the link!
