Evening people,

Recently replaced my indicator unit with a new one on my US 70 bus.

However, my flasher relay has now melted twice and sometimes the 2nd fuse (the fuse that has the red wires connected to it) blows as well.

Once it melted when just having the turn signal in the down/left position. It's also gone when using the Hazard/emergency switch.

I'm sure the turn signal wires are connected correctly (pictures below).

The only other thing is that I have the instrument panel removed and all the wires isolated. I've also checked the bulbs and they were working OK before.

Anyone experienced something like this or where to start looking?

Wondering if the new unit is at fault as the old one (although falling to bits) still worked but didn't cause the relay to melt.

Hi mate
Just been looking through these threads and found that my problems was your problem!!
Have you had this sorted out?? If so what was causing it if you don't mind me asking
Cheers tony

Going to have another go at it today.

I've bought another replacement flasher relay from Eurocarparts.

In order to rule out the new indicator being the issue, I plan on disconnecting all 8 wires. Then I'm going to fit the new relay and see if just the indicators work via the hazard switch without the fuse blowing / relay melting. Not 100% sure this will work as the individual wires to each indicator look to go via the t4 connector from the indicator switch.

My indicators were working with the old indicator switch before it broke in the housing so it's either the new indicator or the way I've wired it up.

I did read on a post somewhere that there were a bad batch of these indicators - might have been on another forum. The crimps on the ends were terrible, some of them weren't even attached.

Could also be caused by an intermittent short. Had something similar on a US bus where the wire of one of the side repeaters was left dangling and shorted to earth occasionally.

That was my thought as well, I'd check you've got no shorts at the indicators themselves or in the indicator swing on the column, as you've changed the switch double check your wiring, I've fitted one of the new stalks recently and the colour code supplied did not match the colours on the bus!!

Could be a hard one to track down!

Yep, thought of this aswell. I'll definitely check the connections to the lights.

You can see from my photos that I've matched the colours of the wires to the ones I removed and that they match the wires on the other side of the blocks.

Graham L - you wouldn't happen to remember which wires you connected to the blocks in the dash.

I'm sure I made a note on the little sheet that came with the new stalk but its at the unit, wont be able to get there until later tomorrow or Sunday now but will have a look and let you know,
