I read somewhere not to use standard loft insulation as it can trap water, what are people using to insulate their campers as I want to make a start on mine fairly shortly,also should I put anything on the floor areas as well? cheers

Was thinking of this what you reckon?
Check out this item I found on eBay:

VAN INSULATION FOIL ROLL FOR CAMPERVANS, VW T4 T5 VAN 10 METRES BY 50 CMS

I find everyone has a differing opinion, my import had loft style insulation behind the ply panels and have no idea whether that was original or not? I replaced that with new loft style insulation but instead of the fibre glass based material I used the sheeps wool based one ... bit more expensive I found that at a big B&Q.

hi this is very good for generating heat without moisture i use to use it in the building trade it much cheaper if you buy a bigger roll the price you have there is expensive try a few builders merchants

try this http://www.screwfix.com/p/airtec-double-insulation-1-05-x-25m/21112" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

it works out cheaper and you can double it up i back my door cards and panel cards with it using spray adhesive and then glued another layer to the inside of the van its really made a difference and all for 70 odd quid

I used Dynamat to soundproof then several layers of foil bubble wrap (similar to what youve seen) from B&Q for insulation on side panels and roof. Seems to work ok and is light and shouldnt trap moisture. I noticed much less (infact no) condensation on the inside after fitting the insulation so guess it works. Used Dynamat then foiled foam underlay (normally used under laminate flooring) then 20mm ply on the floor. This was then covered by carpet in the rear of the van and vinyl flooring in the cargo area before furniture was fitted.

Check out my '68 thread (Nubby), I've used silver backed bubble wrap. Nice and light and won't hold moisture.....

Butyl pond liner for sound deadening. Bubble wrap for insulation on walls/roof and camp mats (closed cell foam) for the floors with carpet on top. No wood for me on the floor, it's heavy. Prob cost me less than 100 inc spray mount type glues.

Dont insulate it...... :)
I'm with Chippi :) Get a heater. I can't see heat insulation helping when you have panoramic single glazed windows and a tent on the roof. Sound deadening pads on each panel make a big difference though. You don't need much, say 8" x 10" pad on each panel or maybe a couple on the big ones, so even the expensive stuff isn't too bad cost-wise. That's all modern cars have in the doors and panels.

I'm not quite in agreement with the non insulation argument - you may say that the why bother insulating our homes as they are not great with windows etc....

My thoughts are to help reduce any running costs of any heating I do use...so I intend to insulate and sound proof with some of the butyl sheets and closed foam or celotex [celotex is lighter but has less sound insulation value]

I also think that an outer cover made from the airtex stuff is the way to go with my westy roof tent insulation, I may see if can squeeze a thin layer on the underside of the roof.

I think that non water absorbing insulation if you can afford and be bothered is not a bad thing, but not only as I have made sure everything else is tiptop...timig, fuel mix, brakes etc :)

I have made the argument against insulating because of the windows.... however there is definately less condensation when you do insulate so Ive changed my mind.... Id insulate rather than not...... and.... soundproofing is a definate do. makes a world of difference

Decided to go for butyl pond liner all round and then top with foil insulation and foil laminate flooring underlay for the cargo floor, thanks for all your ideas :-D
