About four months ago I scratched a Ford in a carpark with my bus. The arch had a scrape taking off the top layer of paint. There was no damage to my bus and I put a note on the windscreen saying I'd pay for the damage. Unfortunately the woman rang and went through insurance.

Got the cost today that the insurance paid out: £374. For a scratch. So much for being an honest person :(

I'm not surprised. Most scratches are fixed by re-spaying the whole panel esp. If its metallic.

Couple of years back, whilst visiting friends, my car (and every other in the street) got keyed by some little scrote and I was quoted 800 to fix it, which meant re-spaying the whole side of the car.

Cost of the paintwork, days courtesy car and the admin... that's cheap I reckon ;)

Ha you got off lightly. I had an accident where in my sisters car I tapped the back of an immigrants polo at a roundabout. No damage to either car, sister still using the car to this day and its been through an mot.

12k in personal injury damages. Hope they get deported the claiming twats.

It seems like the system in the UK is set up in such a way as to positively encourage abuse.

Over here you need medical evidence plus I think the insurance company can ask for a second opinion, if the credentials of the diagnosis are in doubt. This is surely the way it should be over there?

I guess the insurance companies don't care enough to do anything about it since they merely have to raise the premiums to get the extra needed and maybe the government benefits from the taxes gained from more money changing hands - or am I being cynical?
