Hi guys

Trying to help my mum sort insurance for her newly acquired vw camper. But as I'm living in Ireland I don't know anything about the UK companies currently offering camper insurance.
(apologies folks as its a late bay at '79 but I know you're a friendly group and normally happy to help and advise)

She must have phoned about 60 odd companies in the last week or so (blatent abuse of work phone :twisted: ) and the following 2 companies are offering the cheapest quote, based on agreed valuation, roadside recovery, willing to insure on chassis number until van is registered in the UK, etc etc.

* Towergate, Hall & Clarke - http://www.towergatehallandclarke.co.uk/default.aspx

* Roadsure - http://www.roadsure.ltd.uk/

So does anyone have any direct experience of either of these companies with regard to insuring their pride and joy...good and bad reports welcomed, but don't libel yourself :wink:
In Mum's own words...it's no good getting the cheapest, if there is a load of hassle should there be a claim!!

Thanks in advance :wink:

Not sure about those particular companies, I've used Equity Red Star for the last couple of years - insurance about £100 for the year with breakdown recovery chucked in... haven't had to claim but always very professional on the phone (0870 111 8962).

;)

You're best off going for a reputable company specialising in classic cars.

I've used Adriun Flux in the past but wouldn't fall over myself to recommend them, as they are brokers rather than a dedicated company.

Currently with Peter Best, and so far they are excellent. They will also do limited mileage and also agreed value ones. Can't remember the link, just Google it.

Failing that have a look at the companies advertised in the VW mags!

I've just insured my 68 crewie at agreed value of £8k, 2 drivers, fully comp and annual mileage of 6000 miles for under £160. Bargain!

I've just insured my Bay with Sureterm.
Im sure i read somewhere (to late as usual though) that if your a member of earlybay.com they will give you 10% discount!

me too, on both counts!! :?

Thanks all for the helpful suggestions. She's rang every insurer thats advertised in Volksworld and Volksworld Camper & Bus for the last 3 months. And she's gone through every insurance company in the Yellow Pages.
The two I listed above were the two cheapest.

Will get her to ring Sureterm again, and mention EarlyBay this time
As far as I can gather, membership of EarlyBay just involves registering on the forum, yes? Or is there a minimum post count, or other official membership route?
Is the fact that her bay is a late bay ('79) a problem to the EarlyBay powers-that-be?

Thanks for the info Olson, may I ask why you changed insurers? Or do you still use Towergate?

Caroline,

are you north or south of the border? i have a feeling your south? as this is where you'll get trouble with insurance. Most 'rep of ire' insurers wont touch the north and vice versa.

You could try Quinn Direct. I'm with AON private client insurance, but im not sure they cover the Rep. of Ireland domiciled.

Hi Johnny

Yes, I'm in Southern Ireland....but my mother, whom I'm trying to help with insurance, is in the UK...Southern England :wink:
Sorry for any confusion caused.

I am with Footman James very good £110 per year
unlimited mileage agreed value of £4k on a 69 Panel Van
