i have a head unit with a built in ipod lead. when the ipod is plugged in the ipod controls dont work
the head unit controls it (nightmare to find anything)
does a USB on the head unit do the same or will the ipod work by its own controls
i dont want to use a mini jack on the front of a head unit because id like the i pod to charge
will the USB still charge it?
cheers

Now I could be wrong but I don't think that an I pod stores music in the same way as a generic mp3 type player. Certainly when I plug mine into my pc I can not use it as an external drive to store music on.

you can use it as a harddrive, but you need to switch it on in itunes.

does your head unit also have a aux input. if so get a 3mm jack unit to RCA, and a car charger.

I really don't think the USB lead is going to give you what you want. Your best bet is the 3.5mm socket and separate charger as stated above.
