The 3 1/2 psi is a max figure, you may want to set it to 2 1/2 -3 Psi .
What pump and regulator do you have ?
I would recommend using a
Malpassi regulator or a Huco 2 1/2 psi rotary pump.

Currently on stock mechanical pump and Dial regulator like this

Hi Spence,
I really need to get to mine, as me and the other half are going to Croyde in a couple of weeks, so I want the little flat spot ironing out.
I'm running the Malpassi V8 filter regulator (told its the only one that has screw in fittings) as I'm using Speedflow Teflon hoses. Got it set to 2.5 psi and IIRC the floats set to 12mm closed and 38mm fully open. If I could just get to it and change the idles, I'm sure it would be sorted.

Have you got any means on that regulator to see what pressure is being delivered to the carbs? Apparently the IDFs are a bit 'pressure sensitive'

Hope you get sorted out soon, you'll just love the extra power... 8)

Cheers Mark,

It's booked in for Friday morning, so hopefully all good from then onwards, the trip to Croyde will be cool. :D No more trundling along in the slow lane.....
I can't wait to get back down to that end of the country, until then Ibiza is calling this summer so it may be next year as really busy with work. Hope yours gets tweaked good n proper.

I'll post an update Friday night, should have a big grin on my face by then!

That reg you have is more like a fuel restricter Pure junk, Stock pumps are fine, but can put out 7lbs.
do check pressure with a gauge in-line,Hope this helps,Madmike

Cheers Mike

Would a Malpassi FilterKing regulator with built-in gauge be suitable

FUEL REGULATOR FILTER KING 85mm ALLOY BOWL + GAUGE NEW

Thats the one Spence, the instructions say to use the gauge to set up pressure, then fit the plug that is supplied to blank the gauge hole up. Although, I still haven't got around to taking the gauge out, done 400 or so miles with it in.
They are really easy to adjust the pressure, just take the dome nut off the top, crack off the locknut, then use a small screwdriver to adjust the pressure whilst watching the gauge.

Cheers
Mark

Nice one Mark

Can I assume you set the pressure with the engine running?

That's the one I'm running (except mines got the glass bowl) very nice bit of kit 8)

Still got my gauge in too must put the plug in :?

Ok - getting there........ :?

Carbs all set up this morning and running good and proper

Got it trailered there to avoid cocking the engine up.

On the way back it was running fine and dandy then suddenly started coughing and spluttering
And wanted to die out - pulled over and the fuel filter looked empty with the engine
Still running.....

I'm thinking this crappy regulator I have is causing fuel starvation so turned up the dial and all seems good from that point......

If you look at the picture below you can just see it on the far left.

I know I need to bin it for a Malpassi filter king but has the one currently
Fitted been put in-line before the fuel gets to the pump or after????

Would that be a problem.....

Confused?????

The way it should be is after the pump

So follow the pipes it should go

[fuel tank]~~~~~~[pump]~~~~~~[regulator/filterking]~~~~~~[carb]~~[carb]

The fuel filter needs to be fitted on the low pressure inlet side before the pump.
The fuel regulator needs to be set to around 2.5 psi or you'll force fuel past the carb float valves. Webers are notoriously sensitive to fuel pressure.

When/if you fit a Filter King, this needs to be fitted after the pump.

Thanks for the responses - I've no idea what's the fuel inlet and and outlet on the pump.

I'll then be able to work out what order mine has been put together prior to going back to Wolfsburg Wizards and get them to rectify their errors...

Outlet on your pump is the straight up one ;)
something you may want to try sometime in the future,, a 034 vac dizzy ;) made a BIG diff on my bus/van
and to bin that HUGH carb return spring  their is some extended bolts for the linkage that makes the down arms more vertical ,,as in less binding

Checked in the engine bay and had a good feel around

The line to the pump is straight from the firewall....

Then it's

-pump-filter-regulator-carbs.

So all fitted correctly :D

Should the fuel line between the t-piece and both carbs be of
Equal lengths as currently about 90/10 instead of 50/50?

I'm also debating trashing the mechanical pump for an electric one?

Any recommendations....

I run a Huco 2 1/2 psi suction pump, central T with equal length branches to carbs, but should not matter as the pressure should be similar at either end.
Could be crap in the tank blocking the outlet.
