Just got 32 square feet of dynamat extreme today. Where should I put it for maximum soundproofing effect?

Engine noise at motorway speeds is my major problem. My girlfriend sits with her fingers in her ears as we're driving along!

I've got twin weber carbs, 1600 vege engine, JK stainless header/exhaust.
No camping interior, just a full width R&R bed/seat, hardboard headlining on roof, 3/4 inch plywood floor.

Seeing as I only have 32 sq feet of dynamat, any suggestions as to how I should distribute it around the bus for maximum effect?

Over the engine would be a good start :D

Strips to fit in the grooves and like wise for the floor

Door skins/panels and roof sections

Take a look at Beeglebus (Carole) for inspiration page 3 I believe.

Obviously the more sound deadening you want the more layers you put on i.e. you could double layer the engine covers.

At first I thought your thread said that you'd got hold of some Dynamite!!!

try ebay shaggy search tag -sound deadening-, you can pick it up cheap "sometimes", a lot your as well going to an ice shop or audio specialists.
Or I believe Carole used roofing felt the silver coated bitumen/butyl variety not the aggrogate. should work wonders in comparison to a non deadened van for road noise though not for a serious ice install.

Cost 77 pounds sterling incl. shipping for 32 sq feet.

look up ebay member called 12volt. You can get cheaper stuff, but from what I've heard, dynamat extreme is the best. Its thicker than others and its made from butyl rubber, which means it doesn't smell of asphalt!...i can confirm that there is no smell whatsoever from it.

thanks your sniffing it for me :D

thats great dude I will check him out, I tend to just wake up the music so I cant hear road noise for the engine, but I think after a while I might go a little deaf :D

heres mine
, dynamat in all the doors, slider, inner panels, roof and under the rear seat, couldnt cover up the rear paint with it, couldnt get myself to destoy the new shinet paint....lol

Oh yes!

Adds density and mass to the panels, can prove very effective as it stops the panels resonating as well.

Behind your speakers double up and areas like the engine shelf...

Add a thermal layer as well then hide the lot, you've a toasty, silent ride albeit a little heavier.

Not sure If i can do the roof but will sure do the rest, that will keep the gf from moaning :D

You can mix and match it say with the felt or foam stuff which is a lot cheaper, keeping the butyl for the real noisey areas.

Yeah felt would probably be good, ya know the stuff made from fibres with one side impregnated with rubber. Not sure how easy it would be to get now, cos most carpet underlays nowadays are made of that crappy rubber bubble stuff.

This stuff looks good...
