How easy is it to convert a late bay box to fit into an early bay - what needs to be changed - nose cone and bell housing?

Depends on which late bay the box comes from. If its from a 1600 then its a straight swap. (Might need to swap the front mount).

If its from a type four engined bay ie 1700, 1800 or 2 liter then you can re use your original bell housing and cut off a bit of the end of the input shaft (because its a bit longer and may bottom out in the flywheel).

Lots of info on this on the net if you google it :)

Yeah just the bell housing is different on later ones they have the mid mount ears. As trikky says type 4 aka 6 rib you need a t1 bell housing and input shaft or chop a bit off your input shaft

That's a late bay 1600cc 3 rib. 4 speed box. You can tell as 8t has the ears on the bell housing for the mid mount and the late bay front gearbox mountings.

Swap the gearbox mount for your eb one and it will fit right in.
