My pressure switch has been leaking for a while so i though i would just tighten it up.

It turns out the thread has gone in the block. What would be the best fix for this?

How bad has the thread gone? Is it completely stripped, or just partly damaged?

You might get away with using some PTFE tape to create a better seal, but tbh it's a bit of a bodge if the thread is shafted as it may just damage it further when forcing PTFE tape between it and the sensor.

Realistically you are looking at a minimum of drilling and inserting a heli-coil, but this may require removal of the block to ensure no swarf ends up inside the engine.

When mine went I pulled the engine and tapped it out to M10 and bought an adaptor off Ebay, M10 one end and oil pressure switch thread (M10x1) the other. If you go down this route just be very careful not to get any swarf down the oil gallery, I put some tissue down the hole to stop this but nearly lost it down the oil gallery aswell.

I've often retapped these threads and it's pretty straightforward. First put some clean rag at the base of the hole (not tissue - it breaks up) then use a heavily greased tap that catches the swarf (back off and clean every turn). Wash out the newly tapped hole with some solvent (hyperclean etc) then blow anything left out using a straw (not compressed air or you risk blowing rag into the oil gallery) and gently pull out the rag using long nosed pliers 'unscrewing' it out of the hole. BTW - OG oil pressure switches are slightly tapered thread so don't overtighten them - you can split a case if too heavy handed.

Thanks everyone for your help. Looks like it this weekends job.
