Anything would be better than the stock item for brightness...just not sure how they would look? Would they sit behind the factory lenses?

i've fitted MKI golf headligths to my bus (iirc i went for smoked too). these can are a straight swap if you ahve a laterbay or a US import as the rim is seperate (1 screw hole rather than the UK EB with 3)

maybe not for the a stock looking van, but an option at least :) as someone mentioned, notice the flat lense:

EDIT: different angle to gauge the lense flatness:

We have installed some ones for test on the works 1956 split single cab, they are ACE, they are brighter than the lights on my daily and are such an improvment on what we had before.

Only thing I didnt like was the look of these on such a classic vehcile, but they are growing on me.

I will let you know how the test goes, but the more people are interested in this the more likely we will look into a kit for Bays.

have you got a photo of them installed alex?

Sorry it took a while to sort out:

You might wish to refer to this topic thread on The Samba forum:

Refurbishing & upgrading 1968~79 VW Type 2 headlamp systems

Sledgehammer and nut spring to mind.

If you want to read the more-detailed, revised version, try the following, which I shall probably update sometime in the not too distant future:
