Split charge relay so your leisure battery is charged as you go along?

One here from heritage cw cable etc but you get get them cheaper http://www.vwheritage.com/vwh/Special-Offers/Bus-Specials!!!/#offer_relay_T1_T2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

(thinking of doing the same so interested to see what else gets added)

Dont forget that everything you want to run off the leisure battery needs to go to a seperate fuse box then direct to the LB. Plenty of cheap split charger kits about.
I fitted this awhile ago but havent got around to wiring anything to it yet, so ive got a ciggy lighter on croc clips with about a 4mt extension. :oops: Must get it sorted soon.

You'll need an amplifier wiring kit.
-Head unit connected to new fuse box or direct to leisure battery.
-Amp connected direct to leisure battery with a fat wire with an in-line fuse holder (should be part of an amp wiring kit).
-Split charge system (relay and wires) from somewhere like JK.
-Extra in-line blade fuse holders as you need them close to both batteries.
-and someone who knows what they are doing to install it :shock:
Its not that difficult really, just the connection to the alternator or coil which triggers the relay.

depending on if you want plenty of bass, id go for an alternator conversion and a power capacitor for a smoother power supply

I also have a power invertor wired to my leisure battery, useful for charging phones & cameras on weekends away. But I guess this can be done through the cig lighters...

I would also get an inline switch for the amp.

This will let you turn the amp off if you want the stereo on for a long time when you are camped up for a weekend. Keep one set of 6x9's wired up to the head unit and you still have reasonable sound with a reduced output.

I could also complicate matters by saying: :roll:
Fit a zig and consumer unit instead of the split charge, this would allow you to hook up to mains and it runs the 12v whilst charging the leisure battery.

Where are you going to hide it all???? :lol:

If you bring it all to Newport I will fit it for you :lol:

Inverters are good and have come down in price alot. Just make sure you get the soft-start or whatever its called ones or they can damage your equipment with uneven charging.

Andy(?) with the two dogs at vanfest, uses a 110Ah leisure battery which powers his fridge for a whole weekend. A fridge pulls a lot of current, so perhaps go for 110Ah or more to keep the juice flowing! He also said the std dynamo was able to keep up with the charging requirements of the 2 batteries which I find surprising, but hey, he has the kit, so he should know. Am interested 'cos I want to sort power for when no mains available. Faux, have heard of 'zig' units, but not sure what they are and what they do. Could you perhaps enlighten the masses? Presuming you know as you mentioned them!

Numerous models but generally used to accept and monitor the mains hook up, and dynamo/alternator chargeing voltages and distribute to both batteries, and all electrical apliances your running....

so you should never have a flat batt again, can run off a hook up or the leisure battery, if you have a 12/230v fridge you can select to run it off the hook up, etc....

Pete

Zig units are chargers/distribution units, look here http://www.zig-electronics.co.uk/products.htm#" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I think the cf-8 is the one you need, handles 240 in, 12v and charging.

I'm sure Jon will be along with more info!!

PS is it really a week ago we were stood sheltering under Grazy's tarp in a field in the Malverns having a beer or two :mrgreen:

I also have a Zig (CF8) fitted so as Graham says you can have 240 and 12v charging. I have also fitted solar panels for when i'm on site with no hook-up. It runs my fridge, 17inch TV/DVD and Propex heater very well.

Ok Doods wish me luck , I have no real ability as far as wiring goes but I am gonna wire in my Stereo Amp Sub and Split Charge System . Any Big tips for me :D

Yes, get someone else to do it :mrgreen: :twisted: :mrgreen: :twisted:

Hi Boyo

Sorry for the short texts, I've been running a course for 20 teachers doing gymnastics.....they loved it... :roll:

My tip is to borrow or buy a decent pair or wire cutters and crimpers, it will make the job a lot easier. When you buy the wire it should have the ampage on it and give you examples of its uses.

Keep cable short as possible and tidy as possible. Get the best possible quality speaker cable and keep lengths even. Fuse near the battery. Switch the amp so you can turn it off for long stays etc

If I can help let me know.

Good Luck
