Having a complete nightmare with my electrics.... and I wanted to try and sort it myself.
Every time I have someone look at the electrics it triggers something else to go wrong.
I have just had the hazards wiring fixed and since then .... problems...

Interior lights keep blowing 16 amp fuse.
Windscreen wipers now blowing 16 amp fuse.
When lights switched on Temperature Gauge shoots up to max.

When I look at the fuse box underneath it is in a right old state. Any photos of a clean one. Or can anyone suggest a good website with diagrams.
Tips would be helpful. Thanks.

Hiya won,

I'm thinking you need to get after this poste haste. Your USA spec 69 should not have any 16 amp fuses. The whole thing should be white 8 amp fuses.

By all means get yourself over to vintagebus and make use of those wiring diagrams. They are easy to use. Suggestions from one who has been there................allow yourself a considerable amount of downtime. Wiring can be difficult to figure out at first but it becomes easier as you move along. Secondly, remove anything in the wiring system that is not absolutely original to the Bus. For example, get rid of the temp gauge for the time being. Once you have everything operating as it did when it left the factory THEN add on the after market stuff one at a time. That way you can make sure it wants to play nicely with the system.

Thanks for that one..

Hi Mike. That's some great info cheers. Is that right then, I only use 8 amp fuses? Why is this then?

I can only surmise that the engineers at Wolfsburg measured out the circuits and determined that the maximum draw on any of them should not exceed 8 amps. Using a larger capacity fuse (for example a 16 amp) will allow that circuit to become too warm and possibly cause it to fail. And failure (meltdown, spark, burning) could well be disasterous in certain areas of the Bus.

Hi, Fixed the electrical problem. Turned out the back of the switched to the lights and the washers were loose and shorting on the Metal Dash and the temperature gauge had rewired wrong.

Going back to the 8 amp. Checked the circuit diagram and it says 8 amps so thanks. I do have 2 modifications though. The Radio and The Temperature gauge. These may need to be higher amps right? How do I find out?

Hiya won,

That should be pretty easy...............

Check in with the manufacturers of the gauge and radio ask what fusing to use with their products. They should be willing to provide that infor pretty readily.

FWIW, both of them sound to me like 8 ampers, but that's really just an offhand guess and you'd be better to check for facts with the makers.
