Refurishing my louvre window & noticed that all the components have a smear of jointing compound placed across the joint. I suspect it is to seal this point to prevent water ingress. The material used is very hard which also suggests to me that it is also an adhesive.
It's light grey in colour.

What have others used to glue/seal these joints?

Thanks in advance.

Phil.

:? any pics done mine cant remember any hard stuff/adhesive put back together with just the rubbers and a pain in the ass they are

These are the last bits I need to clean so probably not the best examples.
The sealant looks like it was painted on & is about 1 mm thick at most. It looks like very thick silver paint.
It has been applied to the backside of every window frame joint & to the joints around the main frame.
The rubber seals will seal the glass in the frame but the metal to metal joints are sealed with this stuff.
It's very hard & takes some effort to remove.

When I refurbed my westie windows they had the same hard substance on the corners - I just ground it off and rebuilt the windows with fresh seals and clean glass.
Went all round europe last summer without any leaks so I dont think it is required

If you want to reference my refurb of the windows have a look here

It was a bloody awful job never to be repeated - ever

OK thanks guys.
At least I haven't got a one off.

Got the glass all fitted this afternoon. I had a reasonable method by the time I did the last one!

Stu thanks for the link - I had actually looked at your pages during my research.
Posting pics helps - thanks.

I'll wait for warmer weather to fit my window.

Phil.
