I had my van lowered a couple of weeks ago by Balls'd and they did a good job, I am however scrapping on the very top on the wheel tub on the front on large dips and bumps in the road. really happy with the stance and didn't want to start raising the suspension.
My van is running fairly big tyres being Hankook 205 75 14 which have a nice white wall which I am fond of, in my garage I have some nearly identical Hankook 195 75 14 whitewall tyres which are brand new and by sticking the numbers in a tyre calculator work out to be 15mm smaller in overall tyre diameter and might just be enough to stop or at least reduce the tyre scrub.
When researching this I started also looking into the tyre load rating as these are not commercial tyres
First I looked up the weight of a Westy Campmobile
Which according to this info is 3228 lbs unladen and 4828 lbs Gross, with the most permissible on the front axle being 2226lbs and 2602lbs on the rears
In kg this converts to 1464 kg unladen and 2190 kg Gross, with the most permissible on the front axle being 1009 kg and 1180kg on the rears
I checked my 205 profile Hankook White wall tyres and they are rated 95 which according to this site:-http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible.html equates to 690kg which would make it 1380kg per axle and 2760kg all round.. so unless I've worked this all out wrong these tyres are suitable..
The 195 profile tyres are rated at 92 which equates to 630kg which I would only be using on the front so works out 1260kg on the front axle and with the 205's on the back the total comes to 2640kg which I make out as still be sufficiently above the gross wait
So have I worked this all out right?
Matt recons the front adjusters give about 10mm increments so if I go down to the 195 tyres on the front I'll go down 15mm but if I raise the adjuster up one it will only be 5mm down on the original stance but 25mm more wheel clearance.. I hope that doesn't just make sense in my head
