Some one has just bought a 1955 right hand drive VW type 2 , 23 window Samba for £67500 at an auction in Warwickshire. Nice camper but £67500 you got to be joking. Was it anyone on this forum.

Its an awful lot of money and no way in the world could I ever afford it....
But.
1955 so it's a wolfsburg bus, so essentially hand built.
Its RHD.
Its got 23 windows.
Kudos aplenty if thats your thing, was it original or restored. And was it correct? As it with 6 leg middle seat or was in camperised?

Its a Very rare model in fantastic condition.
Sound's about right IMO. (I thought it would reach a bit more!)
Research the background dude, its no normal run of the mill split.... not by a long way.
:)

This isn't that much money, for what it is, it could be a lot more. :)

I've seen the details on this, lots of money but a very sound investment, it's not going to depreciate is it!

Many years ago I paid that for my first house...

But times change and for what it is I would have paid a hell of a lot more.

To put that in perspective I bought an AMG merc for almost the same money 2 years ago. I sold that car after 22 months old and got about half back for it. lessons to be learned here. Amg bad investment. Early bay sound investment.

:)

what about the lhd 1952 barndoor panel van that sold for £90.000 crazy money for these early vans

How many 52 barndoors are for sale on autotrader?? (They don't come up for sale.... well very rarely)

356's go for mega bucks too, crazy!!? No.... not really , desirable rare vehicles, not like our mass produced bays! .... (Joke)
Mind you bays they have crept up over the last 20 years.

Things get old, rare old stuff becomes more desirable to enthusiasts hence valuable.... simple init!? ;)

This similar 1960 RHD Samba just sold here in Oz for $202,000 AUD. http://www.theage.com.au/drive/vw-kombi-sells-for-record-202000-at-melbourne-auction-20150224-13nd9m.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That's about 103,000 GBP. Makes the one above look like a bargain.

I'd love to know what he paid for it

It would have been market value at the time, so no 'bargain' as such, but will have appreciated Im sure. That said, the amount he's spent on it since would make our eyes water

Fair play to him :)

Me and my mate Nige were on your way to a show we stopped a strenthem services to fill up and this guy in a merc pull in behind us and offer my mate £50.000 for his 59 Splitty he told no chance he said he spent 10 years doing it up to concourse but it did make him smile all weekend. So yes I agree I think it's a fair price when you think about all the time and effort put in

I'm currently in possession of this atm...

1954 RHD Swedish import kombi, belongs to a good friend of mine, giving it a service and tune up before Ninove. Packs a tuned 1800 type 4 lump, free way flyer and a Porsche 944 turbo discs around

He's been offered £60000 for it this week
