MPG?

Can anyone give an idea of MPG I should be getting from a 1600 sp 71 early bay (with poptop). Motorway speeds (50-55) I returned 20 mpg......good, bad, average?

I think you should be averaging about 28 MPH

Mine's about 25mpg.

I would pull your plugs first which would give you a indication if it is running rich, if it is then i would look at setting the carb depending which one is - better slightly too rich than lean!

Fully loaded on holiday a couple of years ago, including going over the Pyrenees twice, my 1600 van returned 25.4MPG over 1800 miles, driven with a heavy right foot and a tired engine. That was stock except twin DRLA carbs at the time.

I'd reckon on a gentle motorway run (i.e. not going over a mile above sea level) close to 30MPG should be possible, if all is in tune and well serviced.
