What are people's vans doing? Been on motorway twice and both times the van cruises at 50 but if I hit a good hill I drop to 35 or 40 mph. Inclines 45 mph. Just getting used to driving this so still finding my feet.

By the way it's a standard 1600 twin port.
.

Single carb or twins?

When I ran 1600 twin port with a single carb we were cruising at 53mph
Now we have twin 34icts 60 mph is the easy cruising speed and we hit 70 mph last weekend

Always loose speed on hills though due to a lack of torque often 60 down to 50 or less depending on the incline

You ought to be able to go up all but the steepest inclines at 55mph in 4th. You need to keep feeding the power in on the approach to the hill though to keep the speed up - once you slow down below 50mph you'll struggle to get it back to 55mph again on hills. :)

Make sure you're getting full throttle at the carb. If you are, next thing to do would be to do a full service and check the compression.

I saw you disappearing backwards on the hills, bring on the rolling road and the free feast! :)

Engine been rebuilt with new rings and scrapers. Timings etc been set. I think it's me not wanting to screw it. Trying not to be aggressive, I will take it out tomorrow and go for it.

How do I know I am getting full throttle

Get someone to press the accelerator whilst you look at the carb. Check there is no more travel in it to prove its fully open. If not adjust the cable, you might have some slack before it starts to move

I actually got more throttle by fitting a buttys bit throttle linkage.

My stock 1600tp with 34 pict3 is about the same as yours, cruises happy at 55 but hates hills. I've got a set of 34 ICT's coming but will leave it till later in the year to fit them - the slow hill situation doesn't bother me too much... Bit more concerned that I've got no interior!

Ok. There is a bit more travel on the cable with the pedal full down. How do I adjust? When pedal us full down? I know I undo the nut etc but unsure about when to do it

Loosen off the nut. Grab the cable with pliers or grips and pull it through the nut assembly a little more. Not so much that the throttle will not drop back to idle and tighten up the nut again.
Then go try it!

Fixed throttle. Bus flew up a hill at 40 that it struggled to get up in 2nd the day before. :D may need to drop it back a bit as initially it sounded ok but sat in traffic I thought it might be slightly to fast idling. What a difference
