Nice work! you are really getting on da bus, I am gonna take allot of inspiration from this and get me arse into gear to continue with mone.

Nice one fella 8)

Having seen the van for real today I can simply say it's going to be brilliant when finished. Have to admire you for taking out the interior as you have - I guess I will do mine one day but it all looks too well fitted... hope you find the missing unit.

just put dynamat(fatmat) on the inside of the roof, took nearly 100sq ft

gonna put insulated silver bubble stuff in as well for extra insulation

so all in the bus has taken nearly 200 sq ft of souind proofing

pics to follow

getting my new headliner and interior panels saturday, so the interior can be put back in and i can reclaim my garage.

hoping to get my newly leather covered porsche seats back before christmas, along with matching leather and cloth door panels 8)

looks like ive gone custom after all 8)

i was talking to you at VW action and had a look round your bus... it rocked!! one of the nicest old paint buses ive seen with perfect pattina and awesome sighnwriting....

Like i said to you then i couldn't believe you were even thinking about painting it and you said your missus didnt like it ratty... i guess she won!

youve done a great job by the look of it so well done for that but in my eyes what a shame to cover all that nice history to make just another shiney bus... :(

this is just my honest opinion... don't shoot me for it... each to their own and all that but if people want a shiney bus why don't they buy one that needs painting in the first place?

you wouldn't repaint a nicely aged antique piece of furniture or a classic painting because its cracking up slightly...

i see a rock, i shall go crawl back under it

point taken, and i do see your point

the previous owner who i was in contact has now passed away, and she was overjoyed when i told her i was going to restore it

as far as usability goes, we plan to take it touring to europe in the summer, and it will be a pleasure, ive taken a lot of care and attention, and i hope it will have a good character to it too

i do love ratty buses, just couldnt live with one permanently, i was pretty undecided at action, but im glad i took the plunge

here the latest pic

roof completely soundproofed and insulated bubblewrap added

Looking good - how did you stick the bubble wrap to the roof!
Think I'll give that a go in mine.
Would you also put in the from panel and doors etc?

Cheers

ive just used fat mat(like dynamat) sound proofing in the doors, not insulation

the whole van has taken 200 sq ft of sound proofing

the bubblewrap just gaffer taped to the sound proofing, its roof insulation silver bubblewrap, apparently 1 layer is equivelent to 120mm of polystyrene (which is what ive used in the back door panels and sliding door

B&Q or Wickes for the silver bubble wrap?
Why not put the 'wrap in the doors as a lot of heat will escape from these?

Cheers

Have been intently reading regularly your updates (i'm sure many others are too).

I have been looking for insulation and sound proofing and like the way you have done yours (will use your ideas).

Keep the pictures and words coming.

Do you have and will you post more pictures of the insulation work etc.

Are there any areas or words of wisdom in relation to the insulation work to help novices such as myself?

Cheers

pics of the insulation work, are just those ones

but happy to anyswer any questions if you have any

got the fat mat from a guy on VZI

but ive seen it for similar money on ebay

I have used from roof flashing from B and Q and it is easy to fit, but have not driven the van yet to see if it works.
Only done the roof but will be doing the front panel and doors and side panels later on.
A pic to show you what it's like:
