The first new sub-history pages are now being added (Under 'History' on the main site), and the approach I am going to take is a kind of 'Wiki' - if anyone would like to contribute directly to these pages, let me know and they will be added to an 'Editors' group for each section, giving you access to log in and edit the page directly. Hopefully this approach (kind of like a 'Wikipedia' of EarlyBays !) should give us a good start ...

First three sections are ...

Westfalias
Devons
Deluxes

just get clem to write the lot, he's the guru

i could probably have a stab at the deluxe section, but expert I am not

Ill help where I can.

Clyde knows his m-codes and chassis plates

Cool - thanks for the offers - its only a starting point so will get refined over time ...

baron - do you want to start something on Deluxes then ?

Clem - started for 10 on Westies ?

I guess we could have an m-code section aswell - i know its been done elsewhere but ours will just be for the earlybay period ...

oh god, what have i said now....

I can't get started til... um 2007

is that too late?

nice xmas holiday to brazil coming up, and mad busy til we go, is that a problem?

No dont panic - no super hurry for it .. I might make a start if I get a chance but if not then Jan. no worries

Looking to cover all conversions so if youre offering to be the Dormobile expert ??? :D

Yay go Trikky2, would be good to have some dormobile info 8)
I'm happy to try and help as well, but youve owned yours 35 years longer than me  , previous owner had it for 34 years though :D

Ive got a dormobile brochure for 72 and a zig unit manual if thats any use.
Perhaps we should have a section for brochures etc or will that fall foul of copyright issues?

that never bothered the samba http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/lit/type2_2.php

they have a pretty comprehensive archive

but is it worth duplicating it on here? I dunno

and earlybay I've not forgotten, will draft something for you this month

can we edit via committee like wikipedia? that way other folk can add all the stuff I don't know about (basically if it aint shiny I'm a bit lost)

Well I;ve owned mine since 1973 and I worked for VW in Purley and milton keynes from 1973 through to 1988 but can anybody ever really know it all ? I wouldnt call myself an expert (but then I always thought X stood for the unknown quantity and spert was a drip under pressure) But hey, if I can help then I will.

You inspired me to look up my old files.

I have copies of "Instructions for Operating Passenger Cars and Transporters in Tropical Climates" Its a photocopy of the 30 page publication by VW March 1972.

I also have a photo copy of the 27 page publication "Protection Plates for Type 2 Vehicles" Feb 1969.

Dunno if they are of any interest or not.

I gave away my set of orig wkshop manuals years ago because they were so bulky. The volumes were divided by category and not by model so they covered everything and filled every shelf !!

Still got "changes to diagnostic and maintenance schedules" sept 72.

I also have Dormobiles feeble effort at a sales brochure somewhere.

I really dont know if this is of interest - never done this stuff before.

I agree with Baron - need to sort out a kind of 'Wiki'-approach to edit-by-committee for these specialist sections as many people people on here have good stuff to contribute - I will be hopefully getting this underway during January ..

I know there are some good pieces here and there like the Samba but not really any good single source for earlybay-focused UK/european conversions - be good to have it all in one place ...

Would also like to include brouchures and any other bits & pieces like the ones you mention Trikky ..

that's all good : )

and I wasn't saying we shouldn't have an archive, just asking the question to make sure it was worth the effort involved (even though it would undoubtedly be earlybay who'd have to go to the effort!)
