Thought it only best to move this to the correct section and post some up dates from my last on the general pages...

Here's the original bits and a link to the page http://forum.earlybay.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=69868

Hey all, long time vzi member and enthusiast...

Have taken the plunge and bought myself a late 69 (70 model) Westy cali import, picked it up from Jonno in Bristol earlier this week in anticipation of getting it roadworthy for Volksworld.

There's shed loads of work. Tiny bit of welding above the front jacking points and cab floor, engine, gearbox, wiring, interior, westy roof liner, front screen, brakes, beam etc etc. Planning on getting it Mot'd Monday week ready for its registration with the dvla, its not gonna be complete but mostly there and at least usable for the weekend camping ticket i've already paid for

Plans for sorting the dented front end and satin clear coating the body and roof, re-laminating the Westy interior, notching the chassis will hopefully happen before Spa and then its onto figuring out the seat recovering situation...

These are the pics i have for now and will update them later in the week with the progress 8) 8) 8)

To this

The pictures were from the three week period to get it ready for Volksworld unfortunately I had issues with the front 944 calipers as they kept seizing so I couldn't make it in the van.

I'm quite a bit further on from there now, after finding the input shaft loose in the gearbox I had to remove the engine/ bell housing and sort the issue, rebuilt the 944 calipers, installed a boatyard boz bar, found a genuine rear bumper, refurbished the r&r frame and base (just needs foam and covers) and sourced a buddy seat...

Currently working on the new birch ply headlining and rear cards, rubbing them down and staining with a rosewood colour which is very similar to the westy cherry Formica...

Planning on loads more this year hopefully ;)
Rear Balls'd notches (to match the fronts and hopefully before Spa)
Power steering
Source and repair the rest of the westy interior
Tub the front wheel arches
Fit klassicfab front floor
Rayvern Hydraulics
Satin clear laquer (to seal the remaining paint and rusted areas)

Then hopefully in the new year at some point and if I can raise the cash I'd like to upgrade the engine and box to a Subaru with a Subarugears 5 speed with fellows speedshop ancillaries (all fitted and converted by me, like everything else lol ;))

Oh and here's some trailer porn that I'm mocking up at the min, my circa 1945-50 Sears Allstate need a few repairs and a new wooden box

Bit of an update new birch ply roof panels and rear cards stained and fitted, been a bit of a nightmare with poor fitment and damaged/ incorrect parts sent (bought from a well known door card panel supplier on eBay) shame as I ended up recutting everything myself :(

On a very happy note my Balls'd rear notches turned up the other day and literally just paid for my new Rancho gearbox from Heritage (standard spec). Hopefully time permitting I'll have the new box and notches installed in the next couple of weekends...

Have also made the decision to not go the Subaru route (I'm sure I'll change my mind again lol) now I've bit the bullet and replaced the shagged used box I bought a few months ago so I'll now have every gear to use ;)
