Yes I know this has nothing to do with VW - but I know you are a helpful bunch of lads - so maybe someone who is younger and cooler than me could offer some advise...?

We begrudgingly let our kids play COD WOW/Ghosts/BlackOPs etc - despite them being well under the 16 age rating.

The new COD Advanced Warfare is rated 18, the kids assure it is the same in terms of killing/violence etc...

Could anyone explain why the new game is rated 18 ? common sense would suggest it is "worse" - but having
no experience in these things I just don't know and obviously I can't believe my children

Any help much appreciated !

I'm no gamer, but my understanding is that every time they update/release a new COD the play becomes more realistic in terms of blood/gore. I would imagine the new one would have more blood and gore, the previous one let you blow peoples legs and arms off etc whereas this wasn't visible in the virtual environment on previous games...

Do note I don't own a Xbox 360/One, PlayStation 3/4 or whatever is available nowadays; the last COD I played was WOW at a mates house, and I can't play it haha.

Buy an air gun and teach them to shoot properly. Teach them gun discipline and teach them that people can get hurt for real with guns. I lost interest in gaming after the PS1 and to be honest some kids seem to be lost in virtual worlds, which is a shame when the real one has do much to offer.

Thanks for the comments - managed to avoid (or at least delay) buying it this year.

Bought the boys bows and arrows, Hunger Games influence, instead.

Strange how physical weapons are much more sociably acceptable than virtual ones !

Happy Christmas every one

Good call - I love the games but I'm a teacher and see far too many kids re-enacting what they play and it often ends in injury. It's not just what they see at the time, it's how they become de-sensitised to it and think it's acceptable. Keep them away from it for as long as possible. (Don't even get me started on GTA V and underage gamers!) I totally agree with Jonboylaw too.
