Hi guys, finally got the engine running yesterday :) sounds good :D But there is an oil leak under the pulley ? its quite a lot of oil and splashes all over the pulley wheel, any ideas whats going on and where it could be coming from.

The engine was rebuilt by Laurie a couple of years ago and has been sat in my lounge since.

Poor crankcase breather with positive pressure building up in the case?

Cheers BJ could it be because I have a aluminium oil filler and I blocked off the breather while I put oil in as its in the wrong position and the oil would have come straight out. Or is that too simple?

If not what should I do to stop it :?

case is fooked , usually missed , usually the engine in its prvious life has had mains fail wich has got that bad its worn the case, pulley end, as long as the oil throwers in there, can stop this sometimes by fitting a sand seal pully and seal ;) i have one if you need to purchase ;)

Reconnect a breather.

There you go :)

Get rid of nasty aftermarket rubbish like pancake filter and so-called breathers that have crapulous wire mesh on the end. Your breather MUST produce negative pressure in the case by being connected to the vac side of the carb - usually the air filter.

The original oil filter stand thing was removed years ago, is there any other option other than the pancake filter?

i went through this crap just before camperjam. and it turned out the gasket for the oil pump had given up and the pulley wasnt leaking at all. the thing is i couldnt see exactly where the leak was coming fom until the i had removed the pulley then the tinware from around the pulley which ws hiding the leak. then i put it back toether again and could positivly tell it was the oil pump gasket.

if you havent already id check that as its cheap and easy to sort out. :D

Yes, connect the breather straight into the top of the air filter or get a breather box.
