a friend of mine has a bay with a 1640cc engine and twin carbs engine was professionally set up and runs like a dream

today while driving it the oil pressure gauge was reading very high and the bus drove like (there was an HT lead missing) his words

neither of us now owt about engines least of all me

I seem to drive ok but does lack that bit of go when you accelerate, tick over is fine and the oil level is fine also

he was planning to drive it 10miles to MFN Dubdazes on Friday

can anyone help ?

How high? Over 70psi at 4000 rpm when warm?
If it is that high then try removing the two relief valves in the picture below. Your case may only have one but more likely 2.

Some oil may drain out of the case galleries but not all of the sump, ensure that the pistons are removed and cleaned. Then refit them in the correct positions, make sure they move freely in the bores.

Start the engine and check oil pressure again.
