I have just tested my dipstick sensor, as bus seemed to be running a little hot
It registered 220f when held in a boiling kettle, so in theory about 8 f over boiling.
What would be the normal running oil temp at say 50mph , and what temp is too hot ?

Allowing for the 8f adjustment, I've been running at an actual 225 f ( 106 c) at 50 mph,is this ok ?

I marked my gauge with tippex when dipstick sender was dipped in boiling water and it was a bit out, like yours.
I try and cruise close to that mark which is about 55 ish .
If I'm getting near to 225-230 I slow down to 50 and it drops to below my mark, so I would say you are running a bit hot. Doubt it should get above 100c at 50mph, mine never has.
As far as I know, about 230f is getting too hot.
Is that 50 mph by your speedo or sat nav ?

My speedo.......bus refuses to start if I have anything other than my 1971 AA Map of the Road in the bus.......it's great, no M25 to get stuck on

Are you sure it's really doing 50 then ?
Are you running std size tyres ? Your speedo could be telling fibs to you..
Mines a right lying bastard :D

My VDO temp gauge reads 180*F -190ish at 50-55 mph, cylinder head temps 310* on the flats and 350* on the hills
Hope this helps ;) ,Madmike
