I agree with the sentiments here.
I would add though how important it is to ensure correct ignition timing too.

Depending on what distributor you have of cause.
It makes a difference to running temp.

However,
I was also thinking on using a smb dipstick alongside my VDO Gauge.

I fitted my sender in the blank off plate which would originally be for type3 oil filler tube.
I have a universal case.

My 36 horse shrouds have no cooling flaps inside so my bus takes an age to warm up.
I also now have a vintage speed sports exhaust fitted.

I am going to be taking off my relatively new CB performance maxiflo 3 in/out oil pump and going back to a single outlet.
Plus I will be going back to use the drilled/tapped Block return.
I'll be using a shedeck blanked 26 mm pump and a new csp pressure relief cover.

Having the two in out pipes as it is makes it really difficult to get at the jubilee clips to tighten them.
It seeps oil a little when cold until it's warm.
This is partly because when cold the pipes are solid and they soften and seal when hot.

Even though I modified the mustash bar I still can't get the maxiflow3 barbs to seal.
There slightly thinner than, say the oil cooler barbs.

I want to run proper hydraulic clamped ends on the pipework this time round.
I've had two pipe failures since I've had the bus, plus a I've had a can blow.
Although that was pre max3 pump.

Now using hp1 cans with no problems

I am also considering using a oil thermostat.

Just debating which one to use, anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks Tim

Just use the standard filter head adaptor wax stat style me.

Recommendation from me for the maxi 3 outlet/inlet, get two NPT to male AN-8 / 3/4-16 UNF JIC fittings and loctite/seal those into the pump outlet.
Then get two AN-8 / 3/4-16 UNF JIC swivel female fittings to socketless hose.

Use Aeroquip socketless hose throughout the rest of your external oil system too.

No more leaks!
