Oil temperature sender

Picked up a Smiths oil temp gauge from the car boot at the weekend. Will this sender be ok or do they need to be manufacturer matched?

Am I also correct that the lead from the sender goes to one prong on the gauge and the other side has a fused switched live feed?

The sender has to be the correct one matched to your gauge.

Yes most gauges are wired like that - plus a wire to the panel lights for the bulb.
