I was going to say that myself, let the despute begin!

for a 1600 nothing wrong with the morris SAE30

most important thing with oil is to get a mineral not semi or synthetic oil,

around 15/40 15/50 grade

Turbo diesel oils are also good as they are desinged to deal with higher temps.

As said, mineral oil thats clean and as long as there is enough in there, you'll be fine.

I dont reckon any stock(ish) engine ever failed due to having the wrong weight oil in it.

I use SAE30 to annoy PeteB ;)

oh dear god, this always gets entertaining, for a new motor as already said, after??? well I'm a a fan of this, http://www.blendzall.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; use it in my vintage race bikes,,,but not sold at stores, you would have to carry extra with you it does not mix with dino motor oils

Mineral seems to be the way to go,, straight thirty or a light multi. ANY oil is better than no oil as said before. Check it regularly especially on long drives until you get the hang of how much oil yours uses / looses ;) Whatever oil you go for, just make sure you carry some extra oil of the same brand / viscosity when you go any distance for topping up with. I carry two or three one litre containers with long spouts on, that used to be one litre gearbox oil bottles, just the job for roadside topping up and I keep them stood up behind the battery until used then I fill them for long journeys or anything over fifty ish miles. Older engines are more likely to use / burn more oil than their modern cousins, so should be checked more often out of respect to keep the level on the upper marker of the dipstick. DON`T overfill before a long journey either/ever.Try your upmost not to mix different oils in your engine unless there is an absolute emergency . But this is probably the dullest oil argument we`ve ever had

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,,,, My oil`s betterer than your oil !! ;)
. . . .Now where`s that can of worms ???
