Hello folks

I have just started my 1970 Bay after it standing for two years during restoration, to discover that the two right hand cylinders are not firing although they are getting spark and petrol. Disconnecting the two plug leads makes no difference to the engine whatsoever.

any ideas before i think about taking the engine out
also if i have to take it out what should i look for?

thanks in advance

jim

check your valve clearences, may have closed up and change the plugs.
its more likely to be something simple

WHS ^^^^

usually something simple take it before it was taken off the road it was running reasonably?

pull the plugs see what state there in and re gap them then have a look under the rocker cover.....

Are the right two leads the right way around too? Another check is the inlet manifold boot and gasket, make sure they're not leaking.Do they just not run at idle or is it affected at higher revs too?

yes it seemed to be running fine before i started work on it

the right hand side isn't firing at all if you take the plugs off the right hand side it make no effect to the running of the engine

there is not even a tone change

however if you take either of the left plugs out the van nearly cuts out

i have fitted new spary plugs leads and dizzy cap

Your definately getting spaks to the plugs...

they are good and strong...

and the two leads to the right are the correct orientation...

i have a similar problem but on one cylinder. it turns out the head needed reemed at both plugs and a helicoil fitted, done by a local machine shop.

Apparently the plugs only had a few threads of grip and wernt firing at all well.
