anybody happen to know weather or not you can buy new opening 1/4s or do you just have to w8 till some pop up on ebay?

Hi and welcome :)

Afraid I don't know the answer to your question, although I don't see a problem with buying secondhand ones. Often secondhand parts can be better quality than their 'new' replacements. I've bought 3 rear 1/4lights for my '71, and none have needed replacement rubbers. Replacement rubbers are available from places such as Status VW if you need them.

I recognise the bus in your avatar.

Did it come from / do you live in Bristol? :)

bet you'll be able to find some on dare i say it vzi or even try some of the dealers they usually have a bucket load of **** stored away but they'll want your pants down for owt good trust me.

Just found the pic of it from when a fellow KDC member used to own it.

Tis a nice bus :)

Opening 1/4 lights are not available new. Old ones do come up but are often not very good and quite expensive. Stripping them down and rebuilding is an option but VW put the glass in with a press so be prepared for some sore knuckles and swearing.

Think volksheaven quoted me £40 for a pair. If your on about for the cab doors?

We get decent quarter lights for the side windows occasionally, and have tons of glass for them.

On that.... the side 1/4s .... I want to pull the glass from the frame but when I reassemble I was thinking of using the windscreen adhesive??? good idea/bad idea??? where would I get hold of some?

Should be getting mine back together hopefully this week,BMW windscreen adhesive will let you know how its goes.Just need to get an extra set of hands

Schofields have had some new cab 1/4 lights, brazilian ones not as good as german ones.

you.ll get a decent set from a dry climate importer like FBI or volksheaven. The rubber will probably be perished due to the sun but the metal will be like new. you can always buy replacement rubbers

New ones ARE available from vw heritage, as i bought some a month ago. you have to buy the glass and frame separately but they're easy to put together.
But, i was so dissapointed with the Brazillian quality i sent em back! i now have some original ones from FBI and there great!
