Hi.

My bus is about to be painted and I would like some opinions on the colour of the top half of my bus. The lower half is decided, Turkis Green.

I need opinions on which white to paint the top half.

I have some sprayed up samples from commonly used whites with Turkis.

They include;
L90d Pastel White
L87 Pearl White
L289 Blue White
Leyland Old English (Classic MG Colour from circa 1971)

What do you all think?

Chris

Great dilemma......

I'd suggest get a sample of each and have your painter do a bit of each one......

Or.

Look at the old colour charts by vw - I think they tell you which owns complemented each other.

one vote for blue white!.....I used to have a 65 split that was sea blue and blue white, sort of looked more period/subtle than white if you know what I mean?, some whites can look a bit stark imo.
I love turkis too, id love a complete turkis bus one day.

regards....................kev :D

Turkis looks best against an off-white, so I would choose something with a slight grey or cream tint as opposed to clean white.

In order top to bottom they are:

Blue White
Pearl White
Pastel White
Old English White
Alpine White

I can't make my mind up about pearl white as it seems almost beige in some lights. I think it might be between Pearl and Pastel. I like blue white but the Mrs doesn't. I've ruled alpine out as too stark and although I do like old English, I would rather use VW paint I think.

This is hard! Cheers for your input guys, keep them coming!

was surprised 2nd one down is pearl as i have just done the inside of my door skins before refitting them and certainly don't look like that its more the crust on clotted cream color than greyish......

and pastel is what i used around screen repairs and that is also a nice warm creamy off white.

(hasten to add according to my plate should be pastel on top, and door skins will get over painted when i have finished welding)

Me too. I thought, having looked at pictures of bugs and buses painted in this colour that it was more creamy than beige tinted. Maybe I'll get another sprayup done at my local autopaint shop. My bus is pastel from the factory so in two minds whether to preserve some of its stock colour.

Anybody have a Turkis two tone bus with a white other than blue white that they would care to share a picture of then that would be appreciated :)

This is L87 Pearl White:

Are you going from belt line up or just the roof? I must say I prefer the roof only option topped in Pastel White if it were mine.

Had considered that and I do love it but can't make my mind up whether it would work with Turkis.

This is our bus in pearl white:

Its quite creamy and the light has a big effect. Doesn't help with the Turkis match :)

Thanks, that helps. Nice bus! Most people I've asked think pastel might be the way to go but as you say, holding the colour swatch at different angles has a huge effect so that is throwing a spanner into the works!
