Hi all, im new to the site, have had a good look round and have to say there is lots of very useful threads i will be studing :)

Ok im Phil and live on the Devon Cornwall boarder, we have just bought a 1972 early Bay, its imported from the USA and has half been converted top RHD, it was a 2lt westie

We picked it up 2 weeks ago and took it right in for sand blasting, it was a rolling shell and boxes of bits

We got 2 engines a 1.6 and a type4 the 1.6 turns over nicely, we also got 3 gearboxes :)

here are some pictures

and now its gonna be painted inside and out before the puzzle starts :)

3 very small holes found, 2 in the battery tray and a tiny one in the drivers inner arch

It would not have been a 2 Litre westy in 1972 as they didnt fit the 2L until much later, it would have been a 1700 type 4 engine. Not an original westy either looking at that roof opening, Westys only had the sunroof opening cut out, yours looks like its had a later roof grated onto it, are you sure its a 72 as it looks like a later shell (petrol cap is the give away), round petrol cap straight onto the side of the body didnt come in until 74 from memory. Does it still have the m code plate as that will tell you the build date.

good spot, also it has an inspection hatch above the engine which didnt come in until 73, and the rear corners dont have the early bumper support mount a 72 should have either.

Hello
It seems your puzzle has already started
Wonder which panels been added onto where :? I would of said if thats the original front panel then its a 72 And a 72 Westy would have the first 3 numbers on the chassis being 232 ..but
I could be wrong
Good luck with it anyway
