I shall be removing my engine in the near future to do some gearbox work on my 1971 Bay.

As I've had the van for 17years I thought it might be a good idea to also have a first peek at the fuel tank - with a view to replacing the rubber filler hoses etc.

Checking this out with the usual dealers it would seem that the filler hose is currently (?) unavailable.

(a)Does anyone know where to source this hose (preferably from the UK) before I begin to disturb the tank?

(b)Does it have any special bends in it (that would prevent me from sourcing it from a hose supplier if possible)?

(c)Anyone know what the internal diameter is supposed to be?

Thanks

I can't help with the measurements, but thought I'd suggest kit-car parts suppliers if you can't source one through a VW supplier...

;)

You could try a company called Pirtec, they supply hydraulic hoses, the one in sth london has a sales counter, easier than trying to buy on the phone
I was lucky, found out that crossovers have the same hose as late bays- that are available from HVW :)

Interesting... That's a nice nugget of knowledge to file under "I know that'll come in handy one day"...

Cheers

i had the same prob ,i binned mine thinking it would cost a few quid to replace  .the only stuff i could find was from a marine specialised but it was far to hard with steel inserts and that.so what i did was make my filler neck longer and used the £20 section that heratage sell.since tho i have heard that scohfields sell it by length and will cut you of how much you want.im sure i tryed them tho :?

Thanks for that.

Schofields only sell straight hose as well - no bends, which I gather is intended for the later vans?

Tomorrow I shall try and see if my hose has a bend in it by looking above the wheel.

Why did you have to extend the filler neck, and how did you do it? (How old is your van?)

mines a 68,i bought the late bay filler pipe by accident, but when i stugled to get the early filler pipe for less than £50 i decided to lenthen my filler pipe so the late pipe would be long enouth.i just got hold of some pipe the same diamater and welded it on.mind you you need to be a compatent welder as the smallest pin hole could cause you probs with leeks, from what i remember you can get away with a straight pipe,so if schofiels sell it id go for that,
