Mine old bus was notched, went through 6 MOT's all different garages no problems. Also depends how you look at it. I'd prefer a notched spring plate to an adjustable one.

i checked this out and it isnt an mot failure.

so, does anyone have any photos?

creative springplates arent an option at the moment.

I havent got a photo of my old bus, but something like this. Basically the spring plates need to be able to clear the little stop at the top of the beam. so about a 10mm deep cut. Just make sure the corner has a nice radius ( not square as I have shown), so as to not introduce a stress point.

Or cut the stop.....

but yeah if you must cut the plate, smooth curve minimal heat introduced whilst doing it and the least friction work in achieving your aim the better.

also think hard about wether it is needed for sure....i.e what drop are you aiming for....

WHS.

I also had to notch the bottom part of the chassis rail, as it caught on the driveshaft. Looked cool, but rode awful, went back up to 1 spline, as fully loaded for camping its was too low, loads of neg camber and a bastard to get the wheel off without unbolting the lowered shocks I had to fit.

Another option is horse shoe plates, but cant say if any good or not. KIRK on here has them fitted

Nah i dont like the ones ith the screws.

I should be fitting these today, if they arrive

How do you get your wheel off?

My plates need to drop to the bottom stops to get mine off, you can't with those....

I don't see the problem with adjustable spring plates appart from the price. I have used them on my last 3 buses and have clocked up 20k miles with no problems. They are easy to adjust and make it easy to remove the rear wheels. I can see the issue with strength but have been assured they are tested to above and beyond the stress and weight linits of a vw bus.

The Red 9 SP's look great but I am sure it is a pig to get the rear wheels off with any notched or dropped version......well I know it is as that is the reason I use the adjustable ones.
