Hi all,
Done all my other locks without a problem, but I need to strip my lock back for re chroming, however, I cannot see how it comes apart.I've managed to remove the grub screw and remove the barrel, but I still need to get the stainless steel button out, as the chromer can't do it with it in. I fear I may have to drill out the rivet on which the catch pivots (do I have to or not??) but then..I'm not going to be able to replace the rivet like the OG VW one. Its a locakble catch so I wouldn't like it screwed up, but want it chroming properly. feel free to edit the pics to show what is needed.

anyone ever split one up can advise?

p.s. the chrome is not as good as the pics make it appear ;)

Thanks in advance - Rob

I have stripped the later type but the design is slightly different. IIRC you had to push the button in and then knock out a pin that became visible through a hole in the side of the lock body.
Havent got any pics.
Are you sure you cant just knock that rivet/pin out then press it back in later?

ah, Thanks Loxy, I'll give that a try. I did think of that but wasn't sure and didn't want to force it.I'll let you know how I get on, then others can see who search for this thread anytime in the future. :D

Success!! - you were right Loxy, you just need to drive the pin out that runs in and out of the casting.I held it in a vice and tapped it out. Its now stripped ready to join its big brother 'the tailgate lock' at the metal finishers.

Cheers - Rob
