hi...ive got excessive play in my steering wheel...which needs sorting.... but i have kind of worked out why this is...
its not the steering box... its the bottom of the steering column outer....

when you wiggle the steering the you can see the bottom of the column outer moving back and forth whilst the steering coupling below it doesnt move!!!!

i have the oval metal cover plate bolted to the cab floor and the plastic circular clip thing that fits into this and the botom on the column outer (although it is pretty knackered)

should there also be circular bush up inside the column outer that fits around the column inner....???
if not and i could make one....could this be a suitable remedy?!??

hope this makes sense.....its a hard thing to explain!!!!

cheers,
jp

Are you sure the coupling hasnt perished/cracked as the column & box should be pretty tightly bolted to it, wouldnt have thought there should be any play there?

You have a rubber bushing up at the mounting bracket then theres the clomn bearing as well at the top of the tube, its likely you have a few issues and I would also have a look at the lower coupling disc.....

Bring it round to my place jp - we'll sort it. I think I have some spare steering bits in the cave.
