Fitted Petronix to mine last year, bus starts, runs and pulls SO much better now. Best £70 or whatever is was that I've spent. I do carry points & condensor just in case but I can't see me needing it. Dad used to run yank V8 stuff and always fitted electronic ignition to them with no issue so it was a no brainer.

So impressed with it i've fitted an ignitor kit to the 009 on my new race motor 8)

I run and MSD set up in my van but have a already timed up 009 with points under the bed as have had issues in the past and this way I know I'll get home

I run a standard points distributor with a £7 Velleman electronic transistorised ignition kit.

It uses the standard points, but reduces the voltage across them, improving the lifespan.

If the ignition module fails, I've wired it so it's a 10 second job to revert back to standard points.

I also carry a spare distributor - never needed it yet. :msn4:

I run a 123 on the bus, fitted 4 years ago and not touched since

By comparison, the Boyer electronic ignition on my 1977 Honda 400/4 failed a couple of years ago and we reverted to points which have been fine

So it's whatever works for you

electronic with points (or complete dizzy) in the spares

electronic do go wrong
i've had pertronix fail on me after driving a loaded bus (loaded with bricks lol )

The certainly do go wrong.. http://forum.earlybay.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=54602" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Not sure what to do now, it drove nicer on the electronic set up

For me points/condenser, running a 010 dizzy and using original VW points (these are so much better then the new generation bosch!)
Never have to touch them!

The old stuff for me . :p What do you mean ,,,,,,,,,, you`re not surprised  I`m so crap on electrics, I`m not even sure how the points and condenser work in reality, but they do work ;) Break down (maybe) flick the points,,, yes we got leck tricks,, lets look at the fuel,, Ohhhhh it`s the fuel pump,,,,,,,,,,,,, AGAIN !!!! Just four months old too,, and to be fair ,, it was a quality item from G. rotty S. hitty F. uckups . What do i try now then ??? or just replace with every oil change ? It was the pump and not the rod as well

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,,,Old Stuff,,, Old Fart,,, So no surprise then ,,

Never had anything any good from GSF,body panels, sparks or fuel.
Keep clear imo.

I always stick a petronix on, never had one fail on me... The only prob ive seen is when people get the +/- mixed up and blow them.

Petronix Ignitor 2 has reverse polarity protection , so if you spend a few extra quid it may save some tears.
