Porsche setup for red9 wishbone or latebay spindles.

I've splurged and bought the red9 wishbone front end setup which runs latebay spindles, i guess this is to allow you to run discs up front. This causes a small problem if you want to run porker rims but add no track as there are no off the shelf bracket kits that i know of for fitting porsche hubs and uprated calipers to late spindles only drum spindles up to 70. I've a set of cookie cutters but didnt want to use spacers and add track.

i found vdubengineering.com and gave Lanner a call to see if there was anything out there that would do the trick he was really helpful. They specialise in porsche setups. i found (although not advertised on their site) that they do a bracket kit including all seals, bearing spacers and all fixings and hardware needed. the kit came in a small box and didnt attract any customs so no charges and it was $230 canadian (£150) posted.

heres a breakdown of what i put together

VDubEng kit (£150)
porsche 944 (83-86) hubs discs and spindles pair (£40)
New EBC vented drilled and cross grooved disks pair (£220)
Willwood 4 pot Dynalite calipers + wilwood street pads (£250)
Latebay wheels bearing kit (£30)

total £690

you could just go with the 944 vented discs and save yourself £220 so all in £470.

i dont think thats bad compared to some of the kits.

Sounds good, quite fancy something like that to solve my cookie cutter width issue (they look to far out with spacers for my liking).
Of course a narrowed beam may have to follow as well

not that I have noticed - they probably don't stick out any (much?) further than the stock rims - would just look better with a bit more tuckage.

yeah no problem...

Calipers were Wilwood forged dynalite for .81 disks code:120-6816 (you could use 120-6806)
EBC Discs were code:GD 141 (you can use 81-86 944NA discs) 282x20.5mm
vdubengineering ref. RX7/944NA T2 kit
944 NA 81-86 hubs

you can fit RX7 hubs with this kit as well, ive no idea what the mazda PCD is probably 5x100?

with cookies there not much clearance for studs on the rear face of the rim either, so you need fairly fat spacers or to shave some metal off the studs.

I currently have 25mm spacers with the nuts & studs having been shaved 2-3mm to ensure they don't touch the inner wheel face, would much prefer not to have spacers at all.

Can I ask how the spacers work, assuming similar to any other 944 kit with a spacer between the hub and bearing race on either bearing and a thinner seal on the inner bearings.

Do the original Porsche 944 dust covers sit straight on?

Lastly, I assume that the caliper adaptors bolt straight on where th bay calipers would have say and the Wilwood bolt straight to this?

Why dont you use the 944 hubs,discs and brembo's much better than the willwood and make up your own caliper brakets it's not that hard and cheaper

dont have the know how to make hardware like bearing spacers etc. i thought this was a nice cheap kit and by the time i have payed to have the brackets fabbed id be out as much anyway. As this is an off-the-shelf kit you have a choice of RX7 calipers or Wilwood, its just handy for those like me running late spindles and porker rims.

yes, but the spacers are the same thickness just the inners are larger diameter

i doubt it.. might require cutting the bay dust cap and welding it on top the porsche one im not sure how wide the spindles are on the red9 kit but i would guess they are the same as the latebay spindle.

they will bolt straight on same as the T2D kit.

the reason i posted it (although its exactly the same as any other kit except that its for late spindles) was if your earlybay/crossover but running late discs or porker rims then this was the only off the shelf kit i could find.
