OK so one of you must have a fecking clue how to set these bastards up, no issues starting though the high revs early on are a touch un-nerving, runs well as anything else at mid range but put the foot down and it ******* badly man and the fuel its throwing out the back is well obvious.... come on you gurus out there spill the bloody beans.......

minefield, is it new if not do you know what it was on, if not chances are its not jetted right, the idle mixture screw ( the one thats impossible to get to)should be around 1 3/4 and 2 1/4 turns out from bottom. if its more then that you need a larger idle jet , back off the idle screw (on the left side on the linkage) screw it back in until the butterfly starts to move ( make sure the chokes off) then turn it in one full turn , there's a vac port on the back as well block it off it wont run a vw dizzy, careful the choke doesn't short out against the fan tinware , ooh yeah and you need to make up some sort of extension for the throttle linkage to lower the angle of the cable otherwise you wont get full throttle

No history it came on the van, there bloody awful things and thinking of putting a stock solex 34 on in its place, thought i'd give it another go though......

I run a progressive and haven't (touch wood) had any issues.
The mixture screw can be reached with a small screwdriver bit and a 7 or 8mm spanner, the idle screw is easy to get to and you can buy a universal adapter for the accelerator linkage,
Seems a lot better than stock with regards to power / acceleration and the MPG doesn't seem to suffer.
Have thought about going twins but cant justify the extra outlay at the minute

had a scat one and was great , tis a flippin pain if you have to mess with the settings

Hi
Sorry to hijack this thread, but I'm having a bit of difficulty with mine at the moment, it was on the bus when I got it, anyone know what set up they are running - Main Jets, Air correction Jets, Emulsion tubes etc?? I stripped mine down today, not as difficult as I was expecting. Got the details off my jets etc.
Im going to see if I can get the bus on a local rolling road and see if I can bottom where my problems are. Im finding the bus seems to be hesitant/misfiring when accelerating sometimes - doesnt seem to do it all the time. I took the plugs out and they are really black and sooty - seems to be running mega rich.
Ill post up results / jetting settings when I get sorted.

Cheers

Hi
Right, finally got the bus to idle, been having real trouble idleing and also very lumpy when accelerating. Been having to advance the timing a lot just to get the bus to run. Today I found the problem 8) Took the primary idle jet out and stuck in the end was a lump of what looked like tissue paper. Took this out and gave the carb a damned good clean, fitted refurb kit - power valve, accelerator pump and new needle valve, set up float.
Struck the van up and it idled miles too fast - been set up for the restriction. So i backed the idle off and now it will sit and idle.
Took the bus for a run and it is like a different bus - pulls really well, little hesitation, and idles sweet. 8) 8)

Anyway, still waiting to get it onto the rolling road and have the pros look at it. Below is the current set-up / jetting. I'm not sure this is correct, but it seems to run sweet. Before the trouble I was getting 25 - 27 to the gallon with this set up.

200 Needle Valve

170 Primary Air Correction
180 Secondary Air Correction

F6 Primary Emulsion Tube
F6 Secondary Emulsion Tube

145 Primary Main Jet
145 Secondary Main Jet

45 Primary Idle Jet
50 Secondary Idle Jet

I will update this when I get the results of the rolling road session - hope this helps someone, but as I say, this is not definitive.

My bus is stock 1600 with 123 distributor - setting 0, 10deg btdc @ idle vac off and sealed.

Cheers
