My parts store ordered me a set of rear brake slave cylinders by part number for my '71. When I got them today, they seem to be identical to Beetle cylinders. Is this correct? The sticker on the box says VW Bus 1960 - 1978. Will post pics later.

Beetles are listed completely differently Have a look at this website for yourself and make your own mind up. This is one of the major UK suppliers of VW parts.

or research this site as it lists VW part numbers but both are different Type 1 to Type 2

Hope this helps.

I've just been through this and there is a change over in August '71 - you cannot swap cylinders,
pre August '71 are much narrower and are not threaded for the mounting bolt.

Can't see how one part could cover 60-78...

They are late bay cylinders, i had the same trouble when i needed to replace mine for its MOT.
Luckily i took 1 of the cylinders with me when i went to buy some new ones and they offered me that type, so i showed them what i wanted and was told that they did change around the end of 1971 start of 72.
Hence why a '71 model has 1 year only brakes!
