Ok, maybe a daft question but is the rear gearbox mount on a early bay different to a late bay. Mines a 72 crossover and has a brace bar at the back of the box (mating to engine) that fastens the gearbox to the chassis. However seen pics of early bays with no engine mount, is it missing from photo or does it mount in a different way?
late bay with cross beam, you can just see two bolt heads at teh top of the box

Early bay appears to have no mounts? Or is it a lower crossmember that is missing

earlybays gearbox merely held at the front and the engine fixings (the engine obviously secured at the rear by the brace bar)

Vince 'kombiporsche', fitted a later 2L box with brace to his earlybay by fabbing up a crossmember and welding it to the chassis. theres a thread on it here somewhere, but theres a fair bit of work involved.
