Rear Hatch Latch Question

The latch on my rear hatch (easy for me to say !) doesnt seem to be holding.

The merest tug on the handle and she pops open.

With the hatch open I can open the mechanism easily when in the supposed latched shut state.

Is it plain worn out or can they be repaired ?.

Is the lock mechanism part of the latch or are they seperate entities ?.

Anyone got a good one going spare ?.

All thoughts advice welcome.

I had this problem a couple of weeks ago. Basically the cold weather had made the 36 year old grease go gummy on the mechanism. Just drop it out and soak in degreaser.

I will have it apart at the weekend and see what can be done.
