Recommendations for camping in France

Despite just losing my job I'm determined to continue with our weeks holiday starting 22nd August. We had planned to stay at Pencelli castle in Brecon but the forecast looks pretty miserable for the foreseeable future so looking to try France. Any recommendations with say 200 miles of any of the main ports? Looking for somewhere where we can walk, cycle and possibly kayak. Near a beach or lake an advantage.
 
hi theres a cracking campsite in Epernay south of Reims , right on a river which they do all the water sports plus fishing aswell and its 19 euros a pitch for family of 4 inc elec, clean showers toilets etc another plus loads of champers round there cheap sorry i dont have any more info but you could pm egotripping as he was there at same time as us, anyhow heres a few pics of the place

Just back from France tonight!
We stayed in Le Brevedent near Pont L'Eveque for the first few nights of our holiday:
