I may need to get a recon engine soon :roll:

My funds are limited after just forking out 4K this week for a holiday......
Therefore a VW Heritage engine is a little too much...

Can I have some feedback on a couple of suppliers please.

TES - The Engine Shop - http://www.theengineshop.info" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Backstreet Customs - http://www.backstreetkustoms.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The VW Engine Company - http://www.thevwenginecompany.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
These guys offer free fitting with every engine
Plus a 10% discount up to 31 January.

Also any other recommendations would be cool 8)

Cheers fellas

Cheers

These ones look a little too cheap :shock:
I'd be worried about what I was getting for my money!

he put 3 or 4 in vans he sold,i put one in a beetle and its still going strong,
i think if you ever had a problem with it he will come to you with a new engine and swap it but i dont think you would
i got one from someone for my van that didnt do exchanges cus i wanted to keep the og one to build up myself cus the numbers mach :roll:
give him a bell a talke to him ;)

Give Sayed of Batts Vw a call he tends to keep a stock of engines.

Oh no, is your engine mullered Spence? I've got a TES 1641 in mine. It goes alright but I've never managed to get it oil tight despite sorting all the usual problems, which is a nuisance. It seems to leak where the two halves of the case join.

it looked like mine had a leak in the same place was well pissed off when i changed the oil i took out the oil strainer and he had only put one seal in put it back how it should be and all is good now no leaks

Aircooled Engineering in Birmingham is where we send our engines to be rebuilt, Mike & Stef know their stuff and they charge a fixed rate for an engine rebuild of £500 + Parts so usually a rebuilt motor comes in at approx £700 which I think is good value and I cant recommend these guys highly enough.

That's real interesting Graham, I'll call them tomorrow....

Never having delved into engine rebuilds before would end-float (Which I currently have) Cause problems or could this be removed?

Thanks

Spence

I hate a TES lump... Never again. Leaked oil from day 1 and went bang after a year :x

Hi Jeremy
Yes it's been on its last legs for a while now so gonna bite the bullet and sort it out when it goes in for an MOT with Karl - 1641 plus twin Weber 34ICT's should fix it up good n proper!
