If u buy or register a bus in the uk what is the process
Is it complicated?
Dose it cost?
What number plates do u end up with are they the old number plates the vehicle used to have

Are you talking about buying a US bus that has been imported into the UK but not yet registered ?

If so it's pretty straightforward, you have to fill in some forms and send them of with proof if insurance, mot and a cheque for £55 and they'll send you a reg no back. You then have to get the plates made up.

The number wil be a new one but age related as they can't give you the original number if it's an import,

For an Import.

US Title Doc
HMRC NOVA Letter confirming Duty Paid
UK MOT
Copy of Insurance in your name
Proof of ID
V55/5 filled in
£55

As said you will get issued an age related number based on the information on the Title Doc that you have then entered onto the V55.

Unfortunately its all done by post now as all the regional DVLA offices closed in December, which is a right PITA

When I imported my bus I did it myself and it was relatively straightforward. Basically what Graham said above.

insure it on the vin number, MOT it, fill in the V55, get old new age related plate in, change insurance for new number and away ye go.......

How are you doing ? Have you found one yet ? I'm still looking :?

Hi ya trebor yes we r ok
Work and home life keeping me busy
The pregnant wife is getting bigger, due end April
It's been a funny old hunt for a bus, missed out on a couple , there's been one where the seller changed his mind and seems to b keeping it!
John deitchman friend of midland early bay has a westy but he's gonna do a bit of work on it first bef shipping over so that's still an option?
There is a couple of other options just opened up so now looking into these , one of them I'm very keen on. I'll keep u informed!

What about your hunt? Been to visit any others

Just viewed 1 before Xmas but wasn't to be, made a lot of enquiries on samba but not many reply back :(

This is the score

I've found a westy, it's imported been 95% restored
The owner n me have agreed a price and may b collecting next week
Not yet been registed in U.K.

I've gotta look round for insurance
Gotta pay a flux £50 to leave them / change policy

Prob is I've been told that some insurance comp insist u have to get it registed within 30 days
But to get it registed it needs an mot and it may not get it for a couple of months whilst I finish it off

What u guys recon I should do?
Is there an insurance comp that will insure it on the chassis number and not expect you to get it running within a few weeks

I also wonted to do a vehicle check to make sure there is no finance on it etc

The seller emailed me the title and also this

I can't seem to get the correct vin using these numbers what am I doing wrong

Yes a 69
I've been trying to do a vin check but it's not recognised
Is this because it's not resisted in U.K. At moment although it's been here for five years , two of which it's been restored and the others just sitting in a barn

I'm not a 100 % sure of all the papers , I'd need to ask but he's sent me a photo of the title document

Sorry but what are you trying to check and where?, if it's never been registered in the UK then it won't appear on any UK database.

Does the seller not have the m code plate as that's really what you need to check its history

Ok graham I'll email him for it later

What do u recommend about insurance
It's almost mot ready but it may take me two months to sort it
A flux recon to insure it it must be resisted in 30 days
But to register it don't I need an mot?

It'll only be stored in my garage, not driven on roads

Is there any insurance comp that will insure it whilst I work on it at home ev tho it's not registed?
