I had mine on my drive during the my resto before i insured it a week before the MOT. They did tell me if i needed to extend for a couple of weeks i could but only if required.

I do believe though you can put it on a laid up insurance which means it cannot go on a public highway at all. Try asking them for this and see what they say!

And don't forget, when you get your new bus post up lots of pics 8)

Hi James

To be honest most of the companies apply that 30 day rule and I'm not aware of any that don't. Most people don't insure it until it's ready for the road.

If it's 95% complete why is it going to take a couple of months to mot?, remember it's only the mechanical bits and lights etc that are needed for the mot.

True , it maybe that I could get it through mot quicker?
It's fully restored with just a few minor issues
When getting it mot d they found just a little bit to much play in the steering box. The owner assumed he had to buy a full new box. He did try adjusting it but still some play in it. He did say a different mot station may pass it.
I think early (69) Lhd steering boxes r expensive and hard to find

After that he snapped the key off in the ignition and a few other annoying things got pissed off with it and didn't wonna know any more, he then stored it in a barn for two years

I recon if I can sort a steering box or get new parts I'm prob half way there

The steering box is the same from 68 -72 so if you can find one it's a relatively easy swap, don't be tempted to buy a recon box as they fill them with grease to take up the slack which is wrong.

A couple of people on here have done the late bay steering box conversion and we'll be offering that soon as a service so that's the other option, you can now buy some of the bits now to rebuild the box.

If it failed an mot the box must be really bad as most testers know they have a bit of play in them.

Regarding the ignition is the key still stuck as that's nearly harder than the steering box, they are a pain in the arse to swap the barrel over.

the key has broken off inside the barrel. He says he has a new barrel which he has already purchased. If I can't get the broken piece out guess I'll have to put the new barrel in!
You recon that's hard , that's a bummer
I've got a bay window boff who works at a local garage, he does most the machanical work on my old bus I'll have to get him doing some overtime.

I've just put the deposit down via paypal for it so looking at picking it up next Friday!

Pics on there way on here and early bay appreciation soc fb

yep im with graham. Taking the barrel out of the steering column is a real pain in the ass! Not a five minute job. As long as you got he import doc you should be fine and the mcose plates are still with it.
The old saying is Caveat emptor- "Let the buyer beware"

Hope all turns out well brother
