I'm looking at buying a van it's a bit tatty but looks solid and is in need of a respray at some point. Just wondering what sort price I would need to pay for prep and paint?

Depends on what kind of job you want doing really? Just a quick blow over or bare metal etc

hello

Sorry to piggy back a post.

Just to add to that I am also in the market for a respray and live in Northampton if that helps ?

Thanks

Simon

Same as me! Have a look at midland paint works its who I will use there work looks amazing. Give them a bell

Already phoned them. He said they couldn't give me a quote without seeing the van first.

Think you'll find that's true of any painters. You just don't know what's hidden under the other paint, whether it will need much prep etc ??

Have a look at my build thread - Meet poppy. Midland paintwerks did the work on my bus.

You should be able to get a quote for painting, its all the additional work that no one will quote for until they have seen you bus.

But I would be put aside at least half of the above upper figure for what ifs. also decide if you want the engine bay, interior, bumpers and wheels painted as this will all add to the cost.

Also dont be tempted by the cheepest price, look at the reviews etc. Lots of cow boys out there. Also dont pick one because they are local, MPW are about 200 miles from me and I would recommend themin a heart beat.

Do it right, do it once ;-)

PM me if you havbe any specific questions you would like answered.

I wouldn't go with someone who would quote without seeing the vehicle ;)

I'd expect to pay at least £5k+ for something *good*.

Depends on your standards, whether you want the interior done, and a load of other things. :)

I asked Adam from the Oxford Camper Company last weekend and he told me that as a ball park figure he always quotes 100 hours plus materials. That includes the strip down and rebuild after though and I know his lot do do some very good work.

I'd also point you toward D&M Clasic Car Restoration, seen a bit of their work too and its all been really decent.

Any decent restorer will quote you on sight only not over the phone, but be prepared it can be allot more depending on whats found under the paint. There are some grand ones like Trailer Queens if you want an incredible paint job, but it will be expensive as the work is spot on. As others have said Midlan paint works are also quality as are my buddies at South West Vws who did my bus

100 hours is not a lot of time...
