Reverse lock out

I've tried moving the plate a million times and fixing it in different positions but for the life of me I cannot get reverse gear to lock out, you can select reverse just by pulling the stick towards you as you pull it down, shouldn't you have to depress the gearstick to select reverse?

Yep, you should have to depress stick. Are you sure the lockout plate isn't worn or broken, or back to front?

Mine was cracked and needed replaced.....

It's brand spanking new mate! I've replaced everything from the gearbox oil all the way through to the front bushes, I've just ordered a new standard shifter which should arrive today, after that there's nothing else to change!!


I can feel the urge for a Berg shifter!! :lol: :msn4:

Check the floor around the hole where the gear stick protrudes is totally flat. I found mine was slightly bowed through too much pressure being put on the gear stick over the years. If the floor is bowed it may cause a problem

Having said that I had the same problem, even the the exent that it "worked" OK when the bolts were a bit loose, but when tightened up the lock out mechanism didn't engage. A new stick (GB) solved the problem instantly.

What a waste of time and money that was!! :evil: :x

I just replaced the complete shifter and all other parts that go with it and I still can't lock out reverse gear!! I've now replaced every part from the gear box all the way to the shifter knob! (Apart from the long shift rod) and spent Christ knows how many hours on this and I'm no better off!!

Do you definately have the large spring installed that holds the unit up, it's this you need to push against to get it down into reverse? I believe that quickshifters dont use the spring as they generally have triggers to pull up for reverse, if you've gone back to standard the spring needs to be in.

Had the same issue here,I finally got an 'Empi' and after installing it 3 times It's working , (had to shim it up)
Can't see me ever affording a 'Berg'
