Ah, the age old problem of getting to the roofrack and contents. Think I may be part of the way there with a solution. Bought this today from Screwfix;

600mm long, 300mm wide and 480mm tall. Lightweight alloy construction yet very sturdy, £25. Only problem I can see so far is that it doesn't fold up too small as in the pic below;

I am 5'8'' and can reach the middle of the rack fine using this although with a stock height van a couple more inches would be useful (ooh er missus :shock: ) If one could be found where the legs folded inside the platform to make it more compact, then I think it would be a winner!
Had envisaged that when away in the bus, this could double up as a stool/table when not used as a step. No doubt scores of folk will let on they have been using them for years..... :D

You could always store it on your roof rack :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

I plan on getting one of those to get on to the rack, will also double up as a nice sturdy table for my cooker.

I once saw a ladder attached to the back of a camper so as it did foul the rear hatch but the guy said it was a custom job.

I'm gonna have a chat with a mate to see if i can get one made up!

Any one interested saves carrying a platform with you!

most of the ladders ive seen look as though they have legs that rest against the paint or panel. I'm a heavy basward and would be worried about damage.

Has anyone come across a foldout ladder that uses the tyre to rest against?

I saw a stainless one at a show last year, but they guy didnt know where it came from as it came with his bus. I am after one aswell if you find one. (may have to make one!) :mrgreen:

I think its a different dude, this one was up the side, i do like the corner ones tho :mrgreen:

When I was using my 5 bow rack i used to open the sliding door and stand inside the van the stretch up take a small set of ladders down then use them to get spare wheel off etc. Now with a smaller rack make things a little harder.

Used to be a guy on here who sold custom made roof racks - I'm sure he did the ladders which attached the the rack and rested on the wheel!

someone with some welding skillz could make a fortune at the moment, theres a real market for these type of bay accessories with few people doing them.

i climb and when i cant i'll get an all singing and dancing T5 :lol:

Someone somewhere has made a damn good 'corner ladder' that I think fits to the gutter and the lower bumper mounts. Someone else (on here) had pics and was going to make some if I recall corectly. Looks the dogs, but then it only gives access to one corner, would have to climb up on top to get at the opposite corner. Like I say, looks fantastic but with thought, I don't think it's that practical.
I'm sticking with the 'step' idea, can move it all around to get at all the rack and it can serve other purposes, just need to find one that's a fair bit more compact than the one I have just bought.
